About

Photograph of a geospatial marker with a fisheye field of view.

Hi, I'm Maarten. I am an observational photographer and multi-spectral enthusiast.

My work is about showing how we interact with the world. I capture everyday life, events, and the people around me, but I do it by exploring the boundaries of human vision. By using alternative optics and light spectra that are usually invisible to us, I document the hidden layers of our reality. I look for the strange, unseen energy between people and their environments, turning casual moments with friends or quiet spaces at events into something deeply psychological.

Currently in my everyday life I work with geospatial data, where multi spectral analysis comes in handy as well. I do not look for perfect, clean, commercial images. Instead, I value character and unique perspective distortion. I use a variety of special tools, vintage and custom build lenses to create a specific mood and atmosphere, Ultraviolet (UV) imaging to capture raw, deeply honest close-up portraits and Infrared (IR) to turn familiar landscapes into otherworldly scenes. I like going on hikes, meeting people and exploring new places.

The most important rule in my photography is authenticity. I do not organize the moments; I only observe and show them.
